RWTH Aachen University is delighted to host EARLI 2019, the 18th Biennial Conference of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction. 2.200 conference delegates came from all continents and a huge amount of submissions (more than 1400) peer-reviewed by more than 620 reviewers. EARLI 2019 provided countless possibilities for lively discussions and scholarly exchange in different formats of presentations. The conference theme “Thinking Tomorrow's Education: Learning from the past, in the present and for the future” was specifically selected to address the constant changes of the world we live in. The future is a moving target - difficult to predict and prepare for. Yet, education is doing just that. At the 18th Biennial EARLI Conference and the accompanying 23rd PreConference of the Junior Researchers of EARLI, researchers in learning and instruction from all over the world came together to discuss current research findings. In order to think tomorrow’s education and education research, it is crucial to relate new findings to what already are known and elaborated how this will help foster sustainable learning processes and navigating what is yet to come.
