This event considers 'The Future of German Studies, in British, Russian and other international contexts'. The purpose is to discuss the shape of the broad field of German studies in various international contexts, and in particular with colleagues from Russia. The German Historical Institute, which has a wider educational remit in practice than its title suggests, has become increasingly concerned about the best ways to define and promote German culture abroad; at the same time, it has excellent interaction with leading institutions such as the Higher School of Economics in Moscow (the capital's equivalent of the LSE, with an impressive Humanities division) and its partner School in St. Petersburg (which is considering founding its own centre for German Studies).
