The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) is a non-profit and non-government international scientific organization founded in 2018 by 37 international science and education organizations around the world. It is committed to promoting shared sustainable development and the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals through promoting and implementing concrete international cooperative initiatives in Science, Technology, Innovation and Capacity Building. The 2nd ANSO General Assembly (GA) scheduled in May 2020 was postponed due to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19. Discussed and agreed by the ANSO Governing Board (GB) during its 3rd annual meeting on 9th Nov. 2020, the 2nd ANSO GA was re-scheduled in 2021, and a series of topics focused online meetings was proposed by the Russian Academy of Sciences and will be co-organized with ANSO Members and Partners. These topics include 1) Climate Change and Its Impact, 2) Public Health and Food Safety, 3) Agriculture, 4) Biodiversity, 5) Fundamental Science and Higher Education, 6) Ecology and Green Technology, and 7) Innovation and Tech-Transfer. 2. This Webinar: Climate Change and Its Impact Our planet faces unprecedented challenges due to the climate change, glacier melting, sea level rising and extreme weather events are becoming new normal of our world. It affects natural environment, socio-economy and human livelihoods as well. Climate change is the most crucial common challenge for human being right now. Global efforts, such as Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals, have already been made on preventing further damage to global and regional natural and social systems. Meanwhile, we have to see that COVID-19 makes things more complicated as it is resulting changes in individual behavior and social attitudes, which will have long-term effects on climate change. In this Session “Climate Change and Its Impact”, different aspects of Climate Change will be raised following the focused issues from shifting weather extremes to disaster and food security, from glacier/permafrost melting to water supply and livelihood, from biodiversity changes to ecosystem services, from national mitigation/adaptation strategies to international cooperation, etc. This session is designed to discuss the research challenges and solutions of climate change – evidences, drivers, impacts and interactions between natural and social systems. This session includes keynote talks and panel discussion with respect to frontier research and recent achievements.
