INTERACTION WINS 2021 aims to provide an overview of non-canonical secondary structures of nucleic acids (NA). Such structures play regulatory roles in multiple biological processes and are regarded as innovative therapeutic targets in a growing list of pathologies. The school covers different aspects of non-canonical NA studies: from bioinformatic prediction to in vitro characterization and living cell visualization using modern, state-of-the-art techniques. Following the growing interest in this field, the school will pass through the latest findings on the functions of non-canonical NAs and advances in the design of small-molecule ligands that modulate their folding and stability. Our goal is to familiarize the young scientists with a general methodology for investigating NA structures, support international collaborations, and provide a platform for free discussions on the limitations and prospects of NA-targeting therapeutics.
