  1 am pleased to welcome you to IV International Summer School "Supramolecular Systems in Chemistry and Biology", which will commence at Hotel Avtotrasportnik Rossiji, Tuapse (Russia) on 28 September 2008. This series of biennial Summer School Conferences was initiated by RAS in 2002 specifically for younger chemists started their scientific career in the interdisciplinary and fascinating field of supramolecular chemistry. Previous conferences were held in Kazan (August 2002) and in Tuapse (September 2004, 2006) and became popular and successful. This year the School is organized by the Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kuban State University and the Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg (France) in the framework of the European Research Association "SupraChem" founded by Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Foundation for Basic Researches and French National Center of Scientific Research and ARCUS "Alsace -Russia/Ukraine" program. Our general objective is to bring young scientists together from across the Europe for: Keynote lectures by scientific leaders covering broadly the spectrum of fundamental aspects and applications of supramolecular systems; recent advances in European research in the field of supramolecular chemistry presented through Posters and Short Talks; exchange of views, ideas, challenges and results through Round Table and Younger Challenge Discussions; stimulating competition for Science-up PosterWinner 2008 and Communion PosterAward 2008. Our scientific scope is from fundamental nano-level chemistry and biology through supramolecular design to guided self-assembly in bioscience and nanofabrication. The sub-title of our Summer School is therefore "Supramolecular systems in chemistry and biology". I am confident that our 2008 Summer School will launch of a next level of successful international collaboration and bring to everyone, who will attend at the Conference, an impulse to enthusiastic and fruitful scientific researches.
