The 64th Annual Convention of the International Studies Association—the first fully in-person ISA convention since 2019. After several years of virtual and hybrid meetings, we are grateful to be gathering in Montreal from March 15 to 18, 2023. It has been a privilege to work with you to craft the 2023 Conference Program, which features more than 4900 individual participants and over 1200 panels, roundtables, and sessions. This year, the conference explores the theme Real Struggles, High Stakes: Cooperation, Contention, and Creativity. The theme invited substantive reflections on the various overlapping crises currently underway around the globe, and it also encouraged submissions of creative formats in which people could explore ideas in international studies. That’s why this year, you’ll see some events with novel or experimental formats—from a film screening to informal professional advice sessions to a light-hearted “roast of the ‘-isms’” and more. We are grateful to all of those who submitted excellent proposals and appreciate your patience with our team as we worked to accommodate many requests along the way. We also thank all of those who volunteered to serve as chairs and discussants. We hope the result is a rich and diverse program that will stimulate new ideas, refine work-in-progress, and build effective connections between scholars. Putting together this program was no easy task. We are indebted to the Caucus and Section Program Chairs who worked tirelessly on crafting panels and roundtables, filling in gaps until the very last minute to make the convention a smooth experience for all.
