There are oil and gas discoveries in the Mesozoic succession of the Barents Sea shelf, but a hydrocarbon potential and distribution of resources are not still fully understood. Hydrocarbon systems of Mesozoic are studied based on principles of seismic, sequence and cyclic stratigraphy. Geochemical, lithological and petrophysical investigation and basin modelling are carried out to describe and characterize distribution and properties of petroleum systems. Potential of source rocks, properties of reservoirs and seals, type of traps are controlled by paleogeography and depositional environments as well as by tectonic processes.
