Nowadays great scientific attention is paid to materials used as "organic electronics", which usually are represented by compounds containing a system of conjugated carbon-carbon bonds. The molecules containing non-carbon chain atoms, such as Ge, Si, Sn (E), may be regarded as alternative to organic derivatives. Electrons of the single E-E bond are delocalized over the entire chain of atoms of elements (σ-conjugation). This fact results in appearance of properties which are characteristic for unsaturated hydrocarbons (conductivity, thermochromism, luminescence etc.). In our scientific group we investigated the synthesis and properties of oligogermanes and related derivatives containing various substituents (hypercoordinated Ge atom, electron withdrawing/electron donor groups with different volume).
