We determine the possibility of C-points formation during the self-focusing of an initially homogeneously elliptically polarized Gaussian beam, which propagates in an isotropic medium with cubic nonlinearity without spatial and frequency dispersion and in isotropic phase of nematic liquid crystal, the temperature of which is close to the temperature of nematic-isotropic phase transition
