Thermal diffusivity (k) of different soils strongly depends on their moisture content (w). Within different ranges of moisture content soil heat transport properties vary by 2-5 times. The k(w) curves have complicated shape with segments, characteristic for different soil types. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) for modelling soil thermal diffusivity (k) vs. moisture content (w) dependences were developed using data for 49 soil samples. Obtained PTFs allowed calculating soil thermal diffusivity from data on soil texture, bulk density and organic carbon content with the accuracy of 17-44 %.
