In recent decades, the heavier analogues of carbenes, namely, germylenes (R2Ge:), stannylenes (R2Sn:), and plumbylenes (R2Pb:) attract significant attention.1-5 Such compounds may be regarded as reaction intermediates; furthermore, these derivatives may be used as suitable starting materials for the synthesis of a variety of organometallic compounds (compounds with multiple bonds of M-C and M-heteroatom; small metallacycles; radicals and ions; clusters; ligands in transition metal complexes). Heavier carbenes are unstable due to electron deficiency of central atom. There are two ways of their stabilization including kinetic (introduction of the bulky substituents) or thermodynamic (electron donation from the ligand or/and incorporation into an aromatic system) approaches. In this contribution we would like to present our results on the synthesis of a series low-valent metal derivatives R2M: (M= Ge, Sn, Pb) based on novel O,N,O- and N,N,O-type bulky ligands, and related silicon compounds which required for synthesis of similar silylenes.
