Abstract. The bearing capacity of floating sea ice sheet during the vertical loading for the practical need is in focus. Full-scale tests (3-d point confined bending) with beams with fixed ends, cutting from the floating ice sheet in sito are important to determine ultimate load (Sodhi, 1998). During tests multi-scenario for beam’s failure mode are observed. Transverse bending mode after appearing the central crack have been changed on transverse-longitudinal bending mode due to wedging action. For a detailed exploring deformation patterns were manufactured and tested samples of Plexiglas PMMA. During the laboratory test the tensometer device was used to measure the wedging force and the bending moment. In the analytic part of investigation a formula for the beam deflection was obtained. The results were compared with experimental data.
