The experimental study of intensity distribution stochastic dynamics in a collimated monochromatic coherent beam is presented. The propagation problem is analysed in a single-pass and return circuit using a wide-aperture retro-reflector. The applicability of the returned spatial intensity distribution and its variation in time for the study of non-equilibrium and nonstationary properties of the optical path is discussed, in particular, to estimate the degree of turbulent distortions development, thermal non-equilibrium, transverse wind load. The experimental results of the spatial structures analysis are obtained in the focal plane of the recorder during the observation of collimated laser beams reflected from a retro reflector under the conditions of their propagation through the slant long distance atmospheric path.
