Paleochernozems of the Early and Middle Holocene were discovered in the forest zone and within forest biomes of the forest-steppe zone (Alexandrovskiy, Alexandrovskaya, 2005; Chendev, 2009). Under kurgans, the full profile of paleochernozems is usually preserved, including the upper dark-humus horizon, the carbonate horizon, and paleokrotovinas (burrows of steppe rodents). On the floodplains, the soils buried in the first half of the Holocene have the dark-humus horizon and krotovinas (phaeozems). A a chernozem buried in the first half of the Holocene and having large krotovinas and carbonate horizons ABk and Bk with the high content of carbonates (profile RANIS 2) was described on the floodplain of the Moskva River. Paleobotanical data confirm that phaeozems of the floodplains without carbonate horizon were also formed under steppe vegetation.
