The problem of diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave on a periodic layer is considered. It is reduced to a boundary value problem, that is solved with application of the method of directed orthogonalization. The numerical algorithm is described in detail for the two-dimensional case of H-polarized wave diffraction. Some calculations for the needs of sea surface radiometry are performed that shows decrease of the computational error when a simple normalization or the orthogonalization is used on the each step of solution of the boundary value problem.
