Аβ peptide aggregation and its complexes with metal ions, such as Zn(II) и Cu(II), play important roles in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Based on the electrochemical properties of Аβ, the novel cost-effective and rapid approach to register Аβ complexes and aggregates has been developed [1]. In addition, the electrochemical approach allows one to identify a number of amino acid substitutions in the Аβ sequence both in the presence and absence of metal ions. It was shown that Аβ is oxidized on the surface of carbon screen printed electrodes via electroactive amino acid residues Tyr-10, His (His-6, His-13, and His-14) and Met-35. The observed differences in Аβ oxidation signals can be attributed to peptide’s conformational changes resulting in an alteration of the microenvironment of electroactive amino acid residues, thus making the residues more or less accessible to electrooxidation on the electrode surface.
