The tribe Talpini consists of 5 genera; four of them Euroscaptor, Mogera, Talpa, and Scaptochirus were examined in the present molecular phylogenetic analysis (Fig. 1). The complete mitochondrial cytb gene (1140 bp) and partial sequences of nuclear exons RAG1 (1010 bp),BRCA1 (944 bp) were analyzed using ML, MP, and NJ phylogenetic methods. The monophyly of Talpini was high supported (99%/100%) in all these analyses. However, the relationships among the studied genera of Talpini are complicated. It has been found that Euroscaptor in its current sense is not monophyletic group due to Scaptochirus which is appeared inside the genus Euroscaptor and very distinct position of E. mizura. It follows that (i) E. mizura does not related to the genus Euroscaptor but represents a separate genus; and (ii) Scaptochirus does not represent a separate genus but could be considered as Euroscaptor. Within the genus Mogera, the problem of the species a©nity of small mogeras of South Primorye is still unresolved and their allocation to M. wogura is provisional since the available genetic data do not support occurrence of this species in samples from that region. The molecular evolution of the genus Talpa was the most intently studied. A few deep levels of molecular divergence in this genus were demonstrated. So-called "western" pool of species and at least three basal ancient lineages which are associated with more eastern areas of the genus range have been found. It follows that the authors£ data support the Asian origin of the ancestor of current species of the genus Talpa. Within the genus Talpa, the phylogenetic position of T. davidiana was revealed and full species rank of the Talysh population of T. levantis (T. talyschensis) was proved.
