In this paper we will study several impacts of exports on two variables (productivity and exporting status), exploiting data on Russian firms. First, we will consider classical causal effect of exporting on productivity. Next, we analyzed industrial and regional spillovers from exporting both on exporting status and on productivity. For this purpose, we used two instruments created from available data. Similar to most previous papers, we will use several measures of spillovers, namely, the percentage of exporting firms within an industry or region and percentage of volume of exports to sales. In order to obtain robust result, we used several specifications and proxies for variables of interest. In particular, we used linear and non-linear specifications. As a result, we did not reveal that exports indeed causes high productivity among firms. However, we found significant industrial productivity spillovers from exporting for some specifications. Thus, we can conclude that exporting spillovers on productivity might exist. Nonetheless, we did not find significant results neither for exporting spillovers on exporting status nor for regional productivity spillovers.
