IUGG contributed much to the promotion of inerbational researh for advancement of the geosciences.A special period was designated in 1960s, when broad international cooperation began. The name of V.V.Beloussov (1907-1990, an outstanding Russian scientist in the field of Earth science, is close connected with this. At the XII Generak Assembly of IUGG (1960, Helsinki, Finland)he was elected the President of the IUGG. It is here and then V.V.Beloussov proposed the proiect "The upper mantle and its influence on the Earth crust. Its program has included the broad set of the multididciplinary investigation. As a result the new fundamental knowledges on the structure of the Earth were obtaobed.
