The presentation reviews results of processing ground and drone surveyt drone data for forests in key sits in central Kola Peninsula. The main challenge in this research is to connect UAV tree crown polygons (that are correctly projected) and ground measurements of tree crowns. We need to find an automatized way of creating trunk points and crown tree polygons on the basis of ground measurements. We also need to connect the local coordinate system which is used for ground measurements to drone-derived 3D models. The next goal is to minimize the difference between UAV and ground measurements of crown heights. Canopy mapping using UAV data is quite precise and this method can be used for further research. Globally, we need to minimize the amount of manual field measurements, to increase the usage of UAV methods, and to find out in which forests the method can be used better – according to the forest composition, species, canopies, natural zones.
