The history of evolution of the national spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in Russia includes several key stages: recognition of SDIs role in the inventory and management of spatial data resources (late 1990s), initiatives of the GIS Association and Federal Agency for Cartography to prepare its conceptual framework (2002-2004 years), attempts to put into operation SDI main components (up to 2017), the enforcement of the federal law “On Geodesy, Cartography and Spatial Data ... “ (2017), the inception of legal provisions in the Action Plan on Information Management Infrastructure under the Digital Economy National Program in relation to the task “To create domestic digital platforms for the collecting, processing and dissemination of spatial data and remote sensing satellite data that meet the needs of citizens, business and government”. The analysis of the structure and content of the Plan with the prospects for its implementation is presented along with the overview of the national academia obligations against the background of similar international initiatives. The work was performed in the framework of the theme of the State order No. AAAA-A19-119022190168-8.
