Many substituted triazoles were reported to be promising corrosion inhibitors for copper and copper alloys in neutral media. Two of them, namely 5-carboxy-1,2,3-benzotriazole (COOH-BTA) and 5-carboxy-3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (COOH-ATA) were studied earlier and proven to have anticorrosion aftereffect being adsorbed on several metals. Both of these substances have two functional groups that may react with surface, so the mechanism of their adsorption becomes complicated and still remains unclear. To disclose their adsorption behavior, a surface-sensitive technique of analysis – the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was applied.
