Modulus and phase of magnetotelluric impedance are connected with each other through the dispersion relations of the second kind. In anisotropic and 3D media the abovementioned relations may be violated, resulting in an unexpected phase response, which is useless in conventional 2D-based interpretation schemes. To overcome this problem one could apply the corresponding minimum-phase response instead. We propose a method to recover it from the measured impedance function provided that the latter has relatively simple structure on the complex -plane.
