We present an approach for determining effective properties of the rock with elastoplastic kerogen inclusions, using the uniaxial strength test lab test methodology. Our comparison of estimated plastic strain distributions with experimental ones shows good reliability of the approach. Also, the reliability of this approach was supported by validating the stress-strain curves vs. experimental and calculated data. This technique works both for a 2D calculation and for a comprehensive 3D calculation. We compared their results in same conditions and they are replicate each other. Additionally, we compared the results observed on meshes with a varying number of nodes and studied the dynamics of plastic zone propagation at loading steps. It showed us, that the inclusions play a significant part in plastic deformation process of the entire rock mass, even when their relative dimensions are small. It causes plastic shear bands to propagate through them. These effects are further superimposed generating new areas of stress concentration. The obtained effective elastoplastic properties can be applied for multiscale coupling between hydrodynamic and geomechanical reservoir simulators. This allows simulating processes on the scale of an entire reservoir while simultaneously considering micro-heterogenieties as micro-cracks or elastoplastic kerogen inclusions varying under the applied stresses.
