The paper proposal is addressed the issues of predicational semantics, in particular, cross-linguistic definition of static atelic events and cognitive profile of stative predicates/ In the first part of my talk, I outline two possible approaches to defining static situations in general semantics and render the notion of Stage-Level-Predicate (SLP). I advocate a cognitive approach to event structure and argue that prototypical static situations where SLP predicates are involved must be quantified with respect to their priority argument i.e. semantic subject. SLP subjects are often specified as {+ Human}. In the second part of my talk, I discuss Slavic copular constructions conveying SLP meanings (cf. Russ. Mne xolodno ‘I am cold’) and argue that the correlation between SLP semantics and non-verbal copular constructions holds for a number of Slavic languages. In the final section, I raise a claim that generic or atemporal statives do not exist and that all true statives are SLP.
