After the division of the Korean Peninsula, the two countries occupying its southern and northern parts began their separate socio-economic development. A comparison of contemporary South and North Korea will be made through an analysis of keywords associated with both Korean states, their current level of economic development, level of education, public healthcare and environmental problems. Therewith, important problems such as ‘educational fever’ and social stratification in South Korea, as well as the urban population’s involvement in the household economy in North Korea will be discussed.
