The role of China in the world economy has risen tremendously in the recent decades. The increased economic importance of China has prompted international observers and researchers to look more closely and thoroughly at its economic developments. Consequently, attention to and interest in China’s official statistics is on the rise. The Chinese economy is currently in the midst of transformation and rebalancing phase, where the value of detailed information (including official statistics) is increasing for decision-makers, researchers and analysts. This paper tries to present the general situation in the field of research on the quality of China’s official statistics at this particular moment in history.
