This study considers the Selenga River and its major tributaries (fig. 1) and aims at revealing water, metals and carbon fluxes and their spatio-temporal distribution. Recognizing the knowledge gaps on water-borne pollution spreading to Lake Baikal, a particular aim of the paper is to link geochemical data with pollution sources and estimate seasonal geochemical flows over scales that are larger than the ones previously considered. It also focuses on organic carbon fluxes that link runoff from the catchment into Baikal Lake in regards to the catchment or in-channel sediment origin.
