Chlorophyll a derivatives are widely used as effective photosensitizers (PS) in medicine, solar energy, nonlinear optics, etc. [1]. Light absorption in the long-wavelength region is the most important characteristic of PS, which for natural chlorins, mainly depends on the position of the Qy band absorption maximum. In turn, intensity and wavelength of the Qy band can be tuned by extending the conjugation chain along the y-axis of the macrocycle, as well as by introducing electron-donor and/or electron-acceptor substituents conjugated to the macrocycle [2]. We have proposed synthetic approaches that allow us to realize an extension of the tetrapyrrole π-system along the y- axis of the macrocycle and to insert various substituents conjugated with the macrocycle simultaneously into pyrrole ring A and exocycle E. One of the modification methods used in our work is a synthesis of the iodovinyl derivative via Takai reaction, followed by the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction (Scheme 1, way a). The intermediate iodovinyl derivative in this approach can be used as an important building block for inserting a large number of different substituents. The second approach involves a nucleophilic addition reaction followed by a dehydration (Scheme 1, way b).
