Phonetic assignment assessment is usually based on a subjective teacher’s expertise. The expertise is difficult to operationalize. However, there is a number of guidelines with the set descriptions how to approach phonetic and phonological competence (see CEFR 2018, Handbooks of international exams, etc.) and of specifically designed assessment matrices based on articulatory and acoustic parameters. The paper describes a phonetic application – Phonetic Assessor (I.D. Gendelev is a developer) to assess the students’ audio recordings. The application works according to the physiological criteria of operationalized segmental and suprasegmental levels.
