The aim of this study was to obtain new vanadium-polymer complexes on the basis of non-toxic, water-soluble polymers. The polymer-metal complexes (PMC) were obtained through chelation of vanadyl sulfate in polymer solution (PVP Mw=35 kDa). The acute oral toxicity of the described PMCs was studied, and the median lethal doses (LD50) were determined; it was established that the complexes have low toxicity. The PMCs significantly improved glycaemia in streptozotocin-induced diabetic adult male Sprague-Dawley rats when administered orally at the dose of 100 mg/kg body weight once per day for 14 days.
