Purpose: The enhancement of the pool of free radicals and/or the depletion of the endogenous antioxidants plays an important role in pathogenesis of many eye diseases. This is the reason for the use of antioxidants, superoxide dismutase in particular, for the suppression of free radicals. Medictal drugs in usual ophthalmic forms are relatively slightly effective due to the poor transport of the drugs into the eye, so the main problem is the increasing of drug delivery through the hemato-ophtalmic barrier. Methods: Superoxide dismutase within nanoparticles on the base of methoxy-poly(ethyleneglycol)-block-poly(L-lysine hydrochloride block copolymer (mPEG5K-b-PLKC50) cross-linked by 3,3´-dithiobis[sulfosuccinimidylpropionate] (nanozyme) was used for the treatment of rabbits with immunogenic uveitis. Results: We showed that the use of nanozyme was much more effective than the use of superoxide dismutase in solution. In particular, we registered statistically significant reduction of such inflammatory characteristics as the intensities of iris edema, hyperaemia of conjunctiva, lens dimness, and fibrin clots. It is important that severe forms of uveitis were also less registered. Clinical findings were confirmed by histological data. Conclusion: The use of nanoparticles is highly perspective for the delivery of drugs in ophthalmology. Acknowledgments: This work was supported by contract 11 G 34.31.0004 from 30.11.10.
