Cellulose and its derivatives are indispensable in everyday life. They are used in the production of paper, cardboard and textiles; in the production of food and fodder; when forming emulsifiers, thickeners, stabilizers, sorbents and filters; in the production of building materials, paints, varnishes, explosives, etc. Cellulose is quite attractive due to its relatively high biodegradability. Accordingly, cellulose is considered a very successful substitute for synthetic plastics in some everyday products. Undoubtedly, radiation chemistry can significantly expand the range of products obtained from cellulose, and thereby increase the practical applicability of materials of cellulosic origin. Radiolysis can produce a wide range of valuable products, including furan monomers and furan fuels. Furans are considered to be very valuable and sought-after chemicals, so self-disassembly is very attractive as no other method produces furans directly from cellulose.
