The industrial and household use of various nitrogen-containing organic compounds is steadily increasing, and, as a result, their presence in wastewater and in nature is increasing. Food dyes and explosives are common and hazardous nitrogen-containing compounds in the aquatic environment. Stronger and brighter food dyes are in greatest demand. As a result, when entering the sewage system, food dyes increasingly affect both the color of wastewater and the laboriousness of their discoloration. Most food dyes are aromatic in nature, and their molecules contain several functional groups, which determines the risk of toxic effects of absorbed colorants on living organisms. The production of explosives generates toxic red wastewater, which contains nitro derivatives of toluene and/or 1,3,5-triazine, in particular 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 1,3,5-trinitrohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX). The components of red water are easily accumulated by plants and living organisms, and are dangerous, including carcinogenic, even in trace amounts. TNT and its isomers can cause mutations in microorganisms, as well as acute and chronic diseases of the liver, skin, eyes, blood and nervous systems of people. Accordingly, the urgency of the development of effective and safe methods for neutralizing dissolved dyes, explosives and products of their chemical transformations in the aqueous system is increasing.
