Linguistic landscape analysis became one of the important instruments of sociolinguistics which provides a researcher with the opportunity to investigate functioning and usage of different languages in urban environment. The forming of contemporary linguistic landscape of the Ulan-Ude city started in the beginning of 1990-s with two official languages – Buryad and Russian, as well as non-official English, Mongolian and Chinese. Though the presence of Buryad is lower than Russian, the efforts of different actors in forming linguistic landscape of Ulan-Ude contribute to the increase of city’s bi- and multilingualism.
