From November 30 to December 3, 2022 Journalism Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the 48th International Conference of the Russian Society for the American Culture Studies “American Family in Flux Reflected in Literature, Art and Media.” In six sections close to 50 papers were presented. Geography of the speakers was less varied than usual, but still 15 universities of Russia, Belarus, North Macedonia, China and the United States were represented. Besides the speakers, many online listeners were also attracted by the traditional round table “Imprints” on the mutual influence of the images of Russia and the United States, dedicated to the memory of Professor Yassen Zassoursky – the founder of the annual conferences of Americanists at Journalism Department since 1975. Creating families in the USA, supporting them economically, bringing up children and educating them, broadening understanding of who can constitute a family, how families can help their members in a multicultural society and how they can hinder the development of the society – all these aspects were discussed at the sections both in the historical perspective and as the most recent reflection in American media, art and literature. One of the positive observations is also the higher than usual number of youngest researchers among the presenters – students of the first and the second years.
