5-minute slow abdominal breathing caused ambiguous changes in some autonomic indicators: increase in HRV and simultaneously increase in sympathetic tone. Short-term RSA training could change brain activity: increase of alpha power and peak frequency. Slow abdominal breathing could be used as an easy to apply technique in neurofeedback training protocols. We found some preliminary associations between alpha power increase and HRV spectral characteristics in athletes: the more precisely 0.1 Hz peak in HRV is seen during breathing, the higher alpha power will appear after breathing.
