The aim of our work was to prepare Br-containing PTMSP and PMP and to study the influence of bromine atoms in the polymers on film-forming, mechanical and hydrophobic properties, thermal stability, resistance to hydrocarbons and gas-transport parameters. The results of NMR and IR-spectroscopy showed that bromination was selective and formed PTMSP containing CH2Br-groups near silicon atom and PMP with -CH2Br-groups near the double bond. As a result, samples containing up to 75% (mol.) of Br for PTMSP and 26% (mol.) of Br for PMP were produced. The obtained Br-containing polymers possess good film-forming ability, thermal and thermo-oxidative stability, improved hydrophobicity and exhibit higher resistance to C5-C12 hydrocarbons than the original PTMSP and PMP. We pointed out that the formed Br-containing polymers exhibit rather high permeability level like the precursors, wich is an order of magnitude higher than that of common glassy polymers. We have shown that the polymers possess significantly higher permselectivity for some gases, compared to the original ones, for example, their CO2-selestivity is remarkably high and grows up as Br-content in the polymer increases. This can be explained by the presence of polar C-Br bonds which cause dipole interations of polymer matrix with CO2 molecules.
