The multiplicity of regional soil cover formatting factors determine a new approach to creation of soil resources world database. The complexity of the models and number of factors that are required increase when research objects become large from detail to broad scale. Consequently, formation of a single global model of soils and their properties is an extremely difficult task. Solution is studying of regional soil-landscape relationships of homogeneous regions and their representation in form of cartographic models. A pilot region for the development of methodology for studying the soil-landscape relationships selected northern forest-steppe zone of Middle-Russian upland. Material of research consist of big soil database for Kursk region (more than 1000 soil observations) and analyzed digital elevation model (cellsize 20m) with morphometry and insolation values. Regional soil-landscape relationships studied with discriminant model that predicts percentage of 11 subtypes of soils in each pixel. The model includes the slope (degree), topographical wetness index, topographic position index in radius of 1000m (m) and potential annual total radiation (W / (m2 * year)). These characteristics of the relief interpret organization of the soil cover due to the redistribution of heat and moisture for the relief elements. Microstructures of soil cover, that are compiled by the ratio of the equity of soils in the pixel, show the complexity of soil cover in different elements of mesorelief. Results of cartographic modeling can be used for the planning of economic activity in the study area.
