One of the most distinctive characteristics of the subsystem of the Czech attributive participles (verbal adjectives in the Czech linguistic terminology) is its asymmetry. It has a present active VA (přicházející), two past active VA (přišlý and přišedší) and a passive VA (udělaný), whereas the corresponding Russian subsystem has a present active P (делающий), a present passive P (делаемый), a past active P (делавший) and a past passive P (деланный). Furthermore, the position of the past active component in the above-mentioned Czech subsystem is weakened due either to certain derivational restrictions in the case of such VAs as přišlý or to the rare occurrence in modern discourse in the case of such VAs as přišedší. Some Czech passive AVs (primarily VAs derived from reflexive verbs) can acquire characteristics of active form and thence rival VCs of mentioned two active types. We are intended to check the cases of such rivalry (as they are known in the Bohemian studies) on the texts of different types presented in the Czech National Corpus.
