In this work we developed a new approach to functional statistical multiblock copolymers (MBC) with controlled degree of blockiness. For this purpose macromolecular cross metathesis (MCM) reaction between two unsaturated homopolymers - polynorbornene (PNB) and polyolefines (PO) in the presence of 1st and 2nd generation Grubbs’ catalysts was carried out The copolymers of norbornene (NB) and cycloolefins (CO) (cyclopentene, cyclooctene, cyclododecene, and functional derivatives) are difficult to obtain by ROMP due to the substantially different monomer reactivities, especially for functionalized cycloolefins. A number of new multiblock copolymers of NB-CO was synthesized by MCM (Fig. 1). Factors that effectively control the degree of blockiness as well as crystallinity and thermal properties of MBC are found.
