The dark Triad refers to the three overlapping personality traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy). As the Dark Triad offers the means, by which people gain status, dark personality traits may be connected with the increased importance of achievement and power values. The aim of our study was to relate the Dark Triad and basic human values. Methods included Russian versions of NPI (Raskin, Terry, 1988), SRP-Scale (Levenson, Kiehl, Fitzpatrick,1995), MACH-IV (Christie, Geis, 1970), The Portrait Values Questionnaire (Schwartz et al., 2001) and Portrait The Dark Triad questionnaire, constructed by the authors. The sample consisted of 160 students, males and females, 17-30 years old. Students scoring highly on narcissism, Machiavellianism or psychopathy, increase the importance of achievement value. Narcissists increase power, self-direction, stimulation, hedonism and openness values. High Machiavellianism is connected with high power and self-affirmation values and low benevolence, universalism and care values. Findings are discussed concerning similarities and differences among the Dark Triad of personality traits.
