In this work Co and Ce oxides were embedded in the synthetic opal grown from non-porous silica nanoparticles. The impact of nanosilica morphology on the structure and catalytic behavior of Сo-Ce/SiO2 in the CO- PROX process was studied.The structure - catalytic behavior relationship is discussed based on XPS and FTIR spectroscopy data. The main difference in the structure and properties of samples based on nanosilica with different porosity is determined by the specific interactions of the oxides with each other and with the silica surface. The use of synthetic opal seems to be very promising in the design of new materials with improved catalytic properties for the removal of CO in the hydrogen rich mixture.
