Using the Schwinger—Dyson equations a beta-function for N=1 supersymmetric theories, regularized by higher covariant derivatives, is written as a sum of effective Feynman diagrams. Using this method it is possible to derive the exact NSVZ beta-function in N=1 supersymmetric electrodynamics and prove that all integrals defining this function are integrals of double total derivatives. Application of the technique to the non-Abelian case is discussed.
