In our talk, we will tell about the process of compiling wordlists for Northern Samoyedic languages and possibilities for further use of these lists. UraLex is a dataset consisting of lexical reflexes of 313 meanings from Uralic languages with information of historical relationships for each word. As of 2023 it includes data from 26 Uralic languages, including 2 Northern Samoyedic languages: Nganasan and Tundra Nenets. We completely reworked these lists, divided Tundra Nenets list into 4 main dialects, and compiled new lists for Forest Nenets, Tundra and Forest Enets. The 313 meanings for Uralex were taken mainly from existing standardized basic vocabulary lists (Swadesh, Leipzig-Jakarta, WOLD) and were not specifically adapted for the Uralic languages. This turned out to be especially noticeable in the example of the Northern Samoyedic languages, the living conditions of whose speakers are different from those familiar to us. Thus, for some of the meanings there are no words at all in the Northern Samoyedic languages, since the corresponding phenomena are absent in the surrounding world (vulture, turtle, ant, etc.). Other meanings, on the contrary, correspond to several basic concepts in the North Samoyedic worldview (mountain, river, etc.). Finally, the choice of words was difficult by the fact that the definitions of meanings in Uralex are not always done well. We will highlight some interesting parallels and decisions we made while working on the lists. They will also be used for phylogenetic calculations, which help us to take a more detailed look at the relationships between the Northern Samoyedic languages.
