Enikolopov Institute of Synthetic Polymer Materials of Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPM RAS) was founded in 1981 and celebrated its 40-year anniversary in 2021. From the very beginning, important research topics in ISPM were related to conductive polymers and polymer composites. One of the early laboratories organized in ISPM within 1986-1990 years was the Laboratory of physics and chemistry of conductive poly- mers. The founder of the institute – academician N.S. Enikolopov, 100-year anniversary of whom will be cel- ebrated in 2024, always supported scientific works in the field of synthetic metals, photosensitive, piezosen- sitive materials and polymer photoconductors, prospective for microelectronics, radio engineering, scientific equipment and many other fields. The first organic conjugated molecules, organic semiconductors and luminophores appeared in ISPM RAS in 2003 with the works of S.A. Ponomarenko and his Ph.D. students at that time – O.V. Borshchev, Yu.N. Luponosov, E.A. Shumilkina (Kleymyuk) and others as an independent research group within the Laboratory of organoelement compounds headed by A.M. Muzafarov. In 2010 the group was reorganized into a new Lab- oratory of functional materials for organic electronics and photonics. Initially, only organic electronic materi- als were synthesized and investigated in the laboratory, while the devices from them were made externally due to extensive international collaboration with various research groups in Germany, France, Switzerland, UK and Japan. However, the most efficient collaboration was established in Russia with the research groups of Dr. P.A. Troshin (Chernogolovka) on organic and hybrid photovoltaics devices and Prof. D.A. Paraschuk (Physics Department of Moscow State University) on organic field-effect and light emitting transistors. The new group leaders have grown and in 2022 within the structural reorganization of ISPM RAS the Department of Organic Electronics was established, which included 4 laboratories, 3 of which were new: Lab- oratory of molecular sensory technology and devices headed by Dr. E.A. Agina, Laboratory of polymer solar sells headed by Dr. Yu.N. Luponosov and Laboratory of photo- and electrophysics of organic semiconductors headed by Dr. S.Yu. Sosorev and supported by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education within the program “Science and Universities”. Nowadays the Department of Organic Electronics of ISPM RAS deals not only with novel organic electronic materials, but also is focused on the preparation of various devices based on them and their practical application. Since 2019 the main funding of organic electronics research in ISPM RAS comes from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) in the framework of Research grant for support of the laboratories of international level. Topic of the grant is “Development of functional materials for biocompartible organic electronics and robot- ics”, which in collaboration with the other researches having complementary background, allowed to develop several novel topics, such as artificial muscles from organosilicon polymers, electronic skin as a matrix of pressure and temperature sensors, electronic nose based on organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), electronic tongue as biosensors prepared from electrolyte-gated OFETs and artificial eye based on organic photodetec- tors. The results from all these topics will be presented and discussed on the 9th International Fall School on Organic Electronics (IFSOE-2023), which takes place in ISPM RAS on October 15-19, 2023. IFSOE is as a yearly international scientific event started in 2014 and since 2019 supported by the RSF. This work was supported by Russian Science Foundation (project No.19-73-30028).
