Long term soil pollution by heavy metals and petroleum products (urbanozem and intruzem on the territory of Moscow ) did not significantly decrease the total number of bacteria, but few reduced the proportion (%) of viable bacterial cells (VBC) comparing to undisturbed natural soils (55-60% and 65-70%). Here the content of small cells bacteria (filterable through 0.22 mcm filter forms – FBF) was higher (3 – 10 times), than in natural unpolluted soils. The potential viability of FBF was higher (85 - 92%) than viability of common bacteria. Results of the study of the integral (the total number, the viability, the share of filterable forms) and differential characteristics (structure saprotrophic bacterial complex) show significant transformations of bacterial communities in urban polluted soils.
