It is known that polydentate organophosphorus compounds can bind cations of alkali, alkaline-earth, transition metals and rare earth elements. Qualitative and quantitative changes in coordinating centers, conformational rigidity of the molecule and variation of substituents at the P=O group make it possible to find compounds selective for various cations. This report provides examples of the design of organophosphorus compounds with selectivity towards lithium (L1, L2), copper (L3), cadmium (L4), gallium (L5) and rare earth (L6) cations. The synthesized compounds can be used as active components of plasticized polymer membranes of ion-selective electrodes, effective extractants and potential anti-inflammatory drugs and radiopharmaceuticals. The selectivity was estimated by determining the stability constants of ion metal complexes with L1–L6 using spectrophoto- and potentiometry.
