Copolymers of aniline and EDOT were synthesized by copolymerization in the presence of polystyrene sulfonate matrix, providing the solubility of copolymers in electrochromic mixture. It is shown out that ANI–EDOT copolymers can reversibly change their electronic structure by electrochemical redox reactions, displaying multicolored electrochromism. Electrochromic blends based on ANI–EDOT copolymers display improved cycling stability as compared to homopolymers. This is because copolymers are more electrochemically stable at high oxidation potentials than PANI and form more stable complexes with polysulfonate matrix than PEDOT. Electrochromic response of copolymers is highly influenced by the ratio of monomeric units.
