Here we demonstrate the alternative approach to synthesis of novel constrained geometry complexes (CGCs) starting from Br-substituted parent CGC compounds. This synthetic method is based on the Pd-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling reaction using group 4 CGCs bearing Br-substituted ligands. While similar modification of the coordinated ligands in the late transition complexes, particularly, ferrocene derivatives using catalytic cross-coupling reactions is well-known, similar transformations of early transition metal complexes, which include highly polarized and reactive metal-ligand bonds, have not previously been described.
